Are you interested in flying a drone for business purposes? UACCB's Community and Technical Education Division is offering an 8-week hybrid course that will cover the following topics surrounding UAS missions, i.e. mission planning, preflight procedures, airspace, radio communications, aviation terminology, regulations, airport operations, aviation safety, weather, emergency procedures, crew resource management and more.

Upon completion of this course, you will be prepared to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test. The UAS Licensing course is foundational for unmanned aviation. This course is intended to prepare you to enter the job market as a commercial drone pilot and provide best practices for drone photography, videography, home inspection, aerial mapping and surveying. Upon completion of the training, it will be your responsibility to register at an approved testing site and pay for the Part 107 exam. You are not required to have a drone in order to take this class. Drones will be available for practice and learning.  

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Clint Howard spent 20 years serving the country as a USAF reconnaissance officer and instructor/evaluator aircrew on the RC-135 Aircraft. Major Howard spent the last few years of his career advising Afghanistan government leaders on how to conduct air operations as well as supervising airport operations at Offutt AFB. After retirement from active-duty, Major Howard returned home to focus on furthering aviation education here in Batesville, AR. He is the owner and operator of Oakwood Aviation Services LLC. He is a commercial airplane pilot and a commercial drone pilot. His company currently focuses on aerial photography and education.

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville provides fire training for citizens of North Central Arkansas through the White River Fire Training Center. Select training courses are certified through the Arkansas Fire Training Academy (AFTA) in Camden, AR. 

Prerequisites: 

Firefighters must have completed the following prior to this course:

  • Chapter 1 - Introduction to Fire Service and Firefighter Safety 
  • Chapter 5 - Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Lesson Goal: 

This module is required and useful for departments who want to offer in-house training to their firefighters. This course will focus on Instructional Techniques for Company Officers (ICTO). 

Participants will be introduced to the knowledge and skills called for in NFPA 1041, Chapter 4, in the subject area of Instructional Media Aids & Presentations. There will be both classroom and “hands-on” application. Students will show how to use a lesson plan for instructional deliveries. Short presentations and record-keeping practices will also be part of the class. NOTE: There will be a written exam covering the material presented in this module at the end of the training. This module meets the criteria for individuals seeking Certified Training Officer Status. Course length: 16 hours.

Prior to registering for this course, please obtain approval from your Fire Department Chief or Training Officer. The deadline to register is two (2) weeks prior to the class. Per AFTA, if you are not listed on the roster, you cannot attend class!

ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification

The ServSafe® program provides food safety training for food service managers. In this course, you will earn the ServSafe® Food Protection Manager certification accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Instructor Melissa Foster has more than 35 years of food service experience. Ms. Foster is the Food Preparation Supervisor at UACCB, a Certified ServSafe® Instructor Proctor, Certified Dietary Manager and Certified Food Protection Professional. Textbook and exam voucher are included in the cost. Deadline to register is May 29. A minimum of 3 registrants is required to run this class. For questions, call 870-612-2082.

RN to EMT Bridge

The RN to EMT bridge course is the fast-track way of allowing health care professionals who wish to advance their careers in EMS by working on a ground or air ambulance and taking their knowledge to where the action and treatment first begins. The health care professionals will be allowed to do online course work over a week and then be trained by other health care providers on EMS equipment before being checked off and testing for their national certification and home state licensure. Note: The hands-on skills check-off can only be done in the state of Arkansas. Download RN to EMT flyer

  • After completion of the course you will be able to test for your state licensure and national registration at NAEMT
  • You will have knowledge of Emergency Medical Equipment
  • You will learn to work in a team setting to accomplish a time sensitive goal

The class will consist of an online course review over a period of one month of the EMT course at your pace with an online test at the end of each chapter. Pre-requisites: Must be a current licensed healthcare professional with a valid Basic Life Support CPR certification card. 

This course is a satellite program of the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. Upon registration, you will be given access by the instructor to Pearson's MyLab Brady to begin the online portion of your coursework.

Participants will be given information on these topics along with information about online resources. Several practical, easy to do experiments that can be done in the high school setting will be performed by the participants. The workshop is free and is designed for secondary science teachers. The event is sponsored by White River Regional Solid Waste Management District. 

The workshop will be held on Tuesday July 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the UACCB Arts & Science Building, room 303 and 304. Seating is limited to 20. Lunch will be provided. For questions, call 870-612-2082.

Flight Zone JR: Drone Tech and Mapping for 7-9th Grades

Ages: 12 - 15

Embark on an exciting journey into the world of drones and geospatial mapping! In this course, participants will learn the basics of drone technology, including flight controls and safety procedures. Through hands-on activities and simulations, students will explore the fundamentals of aerial photography and mapping using drones. By the end of the camp, participants will have gained valuable skills in drone operation and will have completed their first mapping project. 

Class will be held on July 30, 31, and August 1 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The cost is free, but students will need to bring money for a 30-minute lunch at the UACCB Grill, or bring a sack lunch and drink.
