Space U - Model Rocketry Camp 

Where Future Rocket Scientists Launch! 

Blast off into an unforgettable STEM adventure! Space U – Model Rocketry Camp offers two half-days packed with hands-on rocket building, exciting lessons on rocket science, and real rocket launches. Designed for students entering grades 5 through 8, this camp will spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and ignite a passion for space exploration. More than just a summer experience, it’sa step on your child’s pathway to a future career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)! 

This exciting experience is led by NASA Solar System Ambassador Dr. David Thomas, a real rocket scientist and professor at Lyon College in Batesville, who teaches college-level rocketry classes and uses model rockets for atmospheric research. Dr. Thomas is one of only five NASA Ambassadors in Arkansas! 

Space U is proudly co-hosted by UACCB and the Batesville-Independence Rocketry Directive (B.I.R.D.), a local affiliate club of the National Association of Rocketry. Their support helps ensure a top-tier experience for every young rocketeer!  

What Campers Will Do 

  • Build and customize a real model rocket 
  • Learn Newton’s Laws of Motion and Forces of Flight through fun, interactive lessons 
  • Launch their rocket high into the sky during a thrilling, supervised launch event 
  • Discover aerospace careers and the future of space exploration 

Registration Details 

Space is limited – Reserve your child’s spot today! 

  • Dates & Times: June 23 & 24, 2025 - 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon (Both Days) 
  • Location: UACCB Campus – Row Johns Library Building, 2005 White Drive, Batesville, AR 72501 
  • Cost: $43 – Includes all materials and a rocket kit for each camper, along with healthy mid-morning snacks. 

Who Should Attend 

  • Students entering grades 5 through 8 
  • Kids interested in STEM, rockets, space, or hands-on building projects 
  • No prior experience is necessary – just a curious mind and a love for fun experiments! 

What to Bring 

  • Water bottle 
  • Comfortable clothes for indoor & outdoor activities 
  • Closed-toe shoes (for safety during rocket launch) 

Cancellations: To cancel a class, five (5) business days' notice prior to the course starting date is required to withdraw and receive a full 100% refund.
