Class B CDL Driver Training (School Bus and Passenger)

READ ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) is offering a 26-hour hybrid training course for those interested in pursuing a Class B CDL. The in-class training covers the general knowledge portion for the written general knowledge and air brakes exams. The Class B CDL license will allow you to drive any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more. UACCB is an Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) provider. Instruction will include in-class and online theory, practice range, and Behind the Wheel (BTW) training for Class B. The practice range and BTW training will be performed in a School Bus Class B vehicle. Note: UACCB provides a Class B vehicle for TRAINING purposes only. UACCB does not provide a Class B vehicle for your State Police skills exam. You will need to provide your own vehicle for the exam.  

You must be 18 years old and have a current, valid Arkansas driver's license.

Financial Aid Scholarship Available For This Course: 

This course is approved for an Arkansas Workforce Challenge (AWC) Scholarship award (up to $800 per program) provided by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE). To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be 18 years old, have a current, valid Arkansas driver's license, and be able to provide proof of high school completion (i.e. transcript, diploma, or GED equivalent, etc.). 

REGISTER FOR THE CLASS:

Step 1: There is zero up front cost to begin this training. This class is limited to 6 seats. Reserve your seat by registering for the class. To defer payment pending receipt of the scholarship funding, click Register and apply the following promo code at check out: cdlb24. Select Check Out, then in the upper right corner, select Add promo code and enter the code: cdlb24. Click the + (plus) sign to update your cart. By applying this promo code, you are agreeing to comply and fulfill the terms and conditions listed in Step 2.  

What if I fail to apply the promo code?

If you fail to apply the promo code, your credit card will be charged the full course fee of $800.00 and reimbursement will be provided after the course is completed. For questions, call 870-612-2082. 

APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP WITHIN 30-45 DAYS OF CLASS:

Step 2: To receive 100% tuition free scholarship for this training, you will need to apply for the >> Arkansas Workforce Challenge Scholarship within 30-45 days of the class. If you apply sooner than 45 days prior to class, you may have to re-submit your application! Upon completion of the application, you will be notified via email by ADHE, typically within 7-10 business days, that you have been offered the scholarship. You will need to accept the offer for the $800 award which covers your tuition. If the scholarship is not finalized, your account balance is due within 30 days of the final day of class. 

Step 3: Proof of a satisfactory DOT Physical or a satisfactory School Bus Driver Physical is required. School Bus Driver Physicals will be accepted for individuals intending to operate school buses. Students must provide proof of a satisfactory School Bus Driver Physical, adhering to the same standards as those required for employment within that individual's school district. To obtain the DOT physical, schedule an appointment with a physician of your choice or contact your school district to schedule the School Bus Driver Physical. You are responsible for the cost of the physical. You MUST provide UACCB with a copy of the physical 10 business days prior to attending class

Step 4: Purchase a CDL packet ($50) at any State of Arkansas revenue office. To purchase your packet, you will need your original birth certificate and a second form of ID (i.e. driver's license, passport, etc.).

Step 5: UACCB requires that you pass a random urine drug screen before attempting any behind the wheel (BTW) exercises. Call 870-612-2082 to verify that your authorization form for the drug screen has been sent to Sherwood Urgent Care. Do not attempt a drug screen without approval from UACCB. UACCB will cover the cost of the drug screen. Do not pay for the drug screen! 

Class Times (Tuesdays-Thursdays):

The class is from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for four (4) weeks or until skills practice (i.e. driving, backing and pre-trip inspection, etc.) is completed. This schedule is tentative and is subject to change. The first week of class will prepare you for the written exam. 

Course Textbooks:

UACCB will provide the JJ Keller student manuals for the online theory instruction.

Students will return their JJ Keller manuals to the UACCB Workforce Training Center, room 1201, upon completion of the ELDT Theory Instruction.

ELDT Theory Instruction and Assessment:

A portion of the training will include online theory instruction and assessment for Class B CDL. Access to reliable internet is necessary. Online (Blackboard) – ELDT theory instruction and assessment for Class B CDL must be completed by date: TBD. This is REQUIRED to obtain your CDL license. Do not schedule your Arkansas State Police driving exam until UACCB releases you for testing.

Beginning the Class B CDL Training

Prior to attending class, a UACCB Staff must verify that you have completed the following:

  • Obtained $50.00 DMV Office - CDL Packet
    • Must present original Birth Certificate to DMV, valid Arkansas driver’s license to DMV, and valid Physical to DMV
  • Must pass an Arkansas State Policy Traffic Violation Background check completed by UACCB - PRINT & SIGN CONSENT FORM
  • Must complete a drug screen authorized by UACCB
  • Must provide proof to UACCB of a satisfactory DOT Physical or Bus Driver Physical. The Bus Driver Physical will only be accepted for individuals intending to operate a school bus.

All of the above requirements must be completed and evidence provided 10 business days prior to attending the course.

RN to EMT Bridge

The RN to EMT bridge course is the fast-track way of allowing health care professionals who wish to advance their careers in EMS by working on a ground or air ambulance and taking their knowledge to where the action and treatment first begins. The health care professionals will be allowed to do online course work over a week and then be trained by other health care providers on EMS equipment before being checked off and testing for their national certification and home state licensure. Note: The hands-on skills check-off can only be done in the state of Arkansas. Download RN to EMT flyer

The class will consist of an online course review over a period of one month of the EMT course at your pace with an online test at the end of each chapter. Then you will have a hands-on training the following week with other health care professionals in the same field. Ride along time will be provided for those who will need it after class or with prior arrangements.

This course is a satellite program of the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. Upon registration, you will be given access by the instructor to Pearson's MyLab Brady to begin the online portion of your coursework.

Wildland Firefighting | Sept 9, 10 | 6-10 PM

This wildland firefighting course is provided by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture's Forestry Division. This class introduces how fire departments and Forestry Division personnel will work together to stop a fire. Wildland firefighting and structural firefighting are very different situations, yet we share many of the same thought processes when we deal with fires. The instructor for this class is Bill James. Course length: 8 hours. 

This class will not qualify you as a wildland firefighter, however, you will learn how the Forestry Division works on fire incidents. Through communication, cooperation, and coordination, our agencies will be able to provide a positive outcome to the incident, the fire is extinguished. We always do this with safety in mind.

In order to receive a certificate for this course, the student must: Attend the entire course, take an end-of-course test, and pass the test. The test will cover the course material.

This free class sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is required for anyone born after 1968. To hunt in Arkansas, you must complete a hunter education course and carry a valid hunter education card. Youth under age 16 may hunt without hunter education as long as they are under the direct supervision of an adult who is 21 years of age. There is no specific age requirement to enroll in hunter education but the curriculum is based on a sixth-grade reading level. Registration online is required. WHAT TO EXPECT

Future Fit provides the training to obtain the skills needed to be competitive when looking for entry-level employment in the field of manufacturing regardless of your job history. 

Future Fit trainees will be screened for participation in the Working for Independence (WIN) Grant program which provides pre-employment training support and wraparound services designed to reduce employment barriers through a three-stage process. Stage 1 consists of 96 hours of on-campus training, Stage 2 consists of 160 hours of on-the-job training, and Stage 3 consists of full-time employment with an hourly pay up to $2.00 above the standard base hourly pay if employed by a participating business/industry partner.

Qualifying WIN Grant participants will receive the following incentives and services:

  • Up to $150 per week paid stipend during Stage 1 (campus-based training) for participants that successfully complete the course learning requirements.*
  • Up to $50 per week in paid fuel stipend during Stage 1 (campus-based training) for participants that successfully complete the training requirements.*
  • Up to $75 per week paid stipend during Stage 2 (on-the-job training) for up to four weeks of verified work attendance.*
  • Access to supportive services and outpatient treatment for those directly or indirectly affected by substance abuse disorders.

*Successful completion of WIN program criteria required to earn stipends. WIN program funds are provided through a WORC (Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities) 3-DRA Grant funded through U.S. Department of Labor.
