RN to EMT Bridge

The RN to EMT bridge course is the fast-track way of allowing health care professionals who wish to advance their careers in EMS by working on a ground or air ambulance and taking their knowledge to where the action and treatment first begins. The health care professionals will be allowed to do online course work over a week and then be trained by other health care providers on EMS equipment before being checked off and testing for their national certification and home state licensure. The class will consist of an online course review over a period of one month of the EMT course at your pace with an online test at the end of each chapter. UAS Drone Licensing

Are you interested in flying a drone for business purposes? UACCB's Community and Technical Education Division is offering an 8-week hybrid course that will cover the following topics surrounding UAS missions, i.e. mission planning, preflight procedures, airspace, radio communications, aviation terminology, regulations, airport operations, aviation safety, weather, emergency procedures, crew resource management and more.

Upon completion of this course, you will be prepared to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test. The UAS Licensing course is foundational for unmanned aviation. This course is intended to prepare you to enter the job market as a commercial drone pilot and provide best practices for drone photography, videography, home inspection, aerial mapping and surveying. Upon completion of the training, it will be your responsibility to register at an approved testing site and pay for the Part 107 exam. You are not required to have a drone in order to take this class. Drones will be available for practice and learning.  

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Clint Howard spent 20 years serving the country as a USAF reconnaissance officer and instructor/evaluator aircrew on the RC-135 Aircraft. Major Howard spent the last few years of his career advising Afghanistan government leaders on how to conduct air operations as well as supervising airport operations at Offutt AFB. After retirement from active-duty, Major Howard returned home to focus on furthering aviation education here in Batesville, AR. He is the owner and operator of Oakwood Aviation Services LLC. He is a commercial airplane pilot and a commercial drone pilot. His company currently focuses on aerial photography and education.

Note: The minimum age requirement is 16 or older.

Class B CDL Driver Training (School Bus and Passenger)

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) is offering a 26-hour hybrid training course for those interested in pursuing a Class B CDL. The in-class training covers the general knowledge portion for the written general knowledge and air brakes exams. The Class B CDL license will allow you to drive any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more. UACCB is an Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) provider. Instruction will include in-class and online theory, practice range, and Behind the Wheel (BTW) training for Class B. The practice range and BTW training will be performed in a School Bus Class B vehicle. Note: UACCB provides a Class B vehicle for TRAINING purposes only. UACCB does not provide a Class B vehicle for your State Police skills exam. You will need to provide your own vehicle for the exam.  

You must be 18 years old and have a current, valid Arkansas driver's license.

Financial Aid Scholarship Available For This Course: 

This course is approved for an Arkansas Workforce Challenge (AWC) Scholarship award (up to $800 per program) provided by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE). To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be 18 years old, have a current, valid Arkansas driver's license, and be able to provide proof of high school completion (i.e. transcript, diploma, or GED equivalent, etc.).

If you apply sooner than 45 days prior to class, you may have to re-submit your application! Upon completion of the application, you will be notified via email by ADHE, typically within 7-10 business days, that you have been offered the scholarship. You will need to accept the offer for the $800 award which covers your tuition. If the scholarship is not finalized, your account balance is due within 30 days of the final day of class. 

Step 3: A satisfactory Department of Transportation (DOT) physical is mandatory to participate in UACCB's CDL training. Schedule an appointment with a physician of your choice for your DOT physical. You are responsible for the cost of the DOT physical. You MUST provide UACCB with a copy of your DOT physical (your health card and the long form) 10 business days prior to attending class

Step 4: Purchase a CDL packet ($50) at any State of Arkansas revenue office. To purchase your packet, you will need your original birth certificate and a second form of ID (i.e. driver's license, passport, etc.).

Step 5: UACCB requires that you pass a random urine drug screen before attempting any behind the wheel (BTW) exercises. Call 870-612-2082 to verify that your authorization form for the drug screen has been sent to Sherwood Urgent Care. Do not attempt a drug screen without approval from UACCB. UACCB will cover the cost of the drug screen. Do not pay for the drug screen! 

Class Times (Tuesdays-Thursdays):

The class is from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for four (4) weeks or until skills practice (i.e. driving, backing and pre-trip inspection, etc.) is completed. This schedule is tentative and is subject to change. The first week of class will prepare you for the written exam. 

Course Textbooks:

UACCB will provide the JJ Keller student manuals for the online theory instruction.

Students will return their JJ Keller manuals to the UACCB Workforce Training Center, room 1201, upon completion of the ELDT Theory Instruction.

ELDT Theory Instruction and Assessment:

A portion of the training will include online theory instruction and assessment for Class B CDL. Access to reliable internet is necessary. Online (Blackboard) – ELDT theory instruction and assessment for Class B CDL must be completed by date: TBD. This is REQUIRED to obtain your CDL license. Do not schedule your Arkansas State Police driving exam until UACCB releases you for testing.

Prior to attending class, a UACCB Staff must verify that you have completed the following:

  • Obtained $50.00 DMV Office - CDL Packet
    • Must present original Birth Certificate to DMV, valid Arkansas driver’s license to DMV, and valid DOT Physical to DMV
  • Must pass an Arkansas State Policy Traffic Violation Background check completed by UACCB - PRINT & SIGN CONSENT FORM
  • Must complete a drug screen authorized by UACCB
  • Must provide evidence of up-to-date DOT Physical (copy of health card and long form) to UACCB

All of the above requirements must be completed and evidence provided 10 business days prior to attending the course.

Class dates for enrollment are open now. The deadline to register is October 18, 2024. The hands-on skills assessment is scheduled for October 28-29 and will be held in Batesville, AR at Survival Flight, Inc. 

Pre-requisites: Must be a current licensed healthcare professional with a valid Basic Life Support CPR certification card. 

This course is a satellite program of the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. Upon registration, you will be given access by the instructor to Pearson's MyLab Brady to begin the online portion of your coursework.
